Changing Rooms

Half my readership complained about the white on black nature of the site (see the comments in the post below).

So in an attempt to please you all, I’ve added some experimental javascript to change colour schemes.

Default should you have a strange browser, no Javascript or have banished cookies is the dark site.

Over on the right, above the “power by” blurb, you’ll find two highlighted words. If you prefer the original dark sytle (white text on dark blue), click dark. Otherwise click light (they won’t _do_ anything as they’re not real links).

Refresh, and you should get the style you requested.

If not… I’m sorry. I’ve only got one browser (IE6) and it works for me. If you’re blocking cookies and/or Javascript, please enable them, it won’t work otherwise. Oh, and the cookies should last 96 days, before you need to click again.

The light colour scheme is currently a bit too lilac for my tastes, so I’ll change that soon (feedback?).

If this mechanism works for enough of you (yes, you’ll have to tell me!), then I’ll pop the code on the remaining pages, so they work too.

If you’ve any comments on the light style, or the mechanism to get to it, now would be a good time to say!

Once we’ve got this colour system thrashed out (or thrown away… depending), then I’ll work on the font sizes, but let’s deal with one thing at a time first.

i don't have any comments i am a frustrated golf widow that has just knocked down my 16 year old sons bedroom wall. While my husband is away golfing in Spain. I work full time as a staff nurse and my big son is growing at quite a rate and his bedroom is too small so in my wisdom the wall is down... don't know whether to contact DIY SOS or yourselves. please let me know your address and i would be very gratefull yours sincerely Mrs Morag Beavon.

Hopefully that's a little darker.

Code switching works fine in IE5.x and the light scheme is much easier on these old eyes. But if you could also alter the colour of the moused-over links it would be really great. The bright green washes out on the light background.

Yep, the colour switching works in IE5 too. You're pretty good Phil, ever thought of a job in computers ? :)

Fantastic, glad that works!

I'll try and get a non-lilac scheme done tomorrow night... hopefully the current one, while a bit wierd, will be more readable for you in the meantime.

And no, I didn't think you were being pushy about the fonts. I was a tad disspointed when I tried an IE zoom and found they didn't (zoom that is).

Yup, the code works for me (using Mozilla 1.0). That was pretty slick work.

And yes, lilac is a pretty flower, but I'm not sure you want to use it as a color on your web site either ;-)

As to the {font size: medium} change, I hope I wasn't seen as being pushy or anything as that was not my intent. It was just a suggestion.
