Skinning

You might have seen that this site has the ability to chose a colour scheme (light or dark), menu over on the right.

This morning I found a system, which offers a slightly more thorough way of “skinning” Movable Type sites.

I currently just use a cookie to decide which CSS Style sheet to apply. The method above uses yet more templates, and some PHP. Your settings are still stored in a cookie, but the template method it uses means much much finer control over layout options.

If I had it in me to create wonderful looking sites, with gallons of originality then I’d be rushing to try this. However, as I’ve only a small amount of creativity in me (I’d like more, it’s just not there), I’ll leave things as they are at the moment.

Once either I’ve got more than one idea for layout here (ie. something that I can’t change just with the CSS), or I find that my cobbled together CSS switcher doesn’t work, then perhaps I’ll dig this link out and try it.

Just thought anyone who uses (or might use) Movable Type, might like to have a read, and perhaps give it a go. If you’ve tried it and have any feedback, feel free to comment.
