Close buy no cigar

My new ISP phoned today to tell me I had an ADSL activated line.

So I zipped out and bought a new Zoom ADSL modem, splitters and cable. Back home plug it all in, install the drivers.

That’s when the problem started. It appears that the modem is finding the ADSL line fine, but can’t connect to my ISP servers at the other end.

Luckily for me ADSL allows you to use the phone at the same time as the modem, so I called the ISP tech support people.

The upshot is that they think the problem is being caused by BT’s servers. It appears that my computer happily connects to their RAS and then RADIUS server, but that their RADIUS server won’t then pass any information on to my ISPs RADIUS server. The result being me not getting logged in.

The issue is now unfortunately with BT, not the ISP. This is a pain, because BT don’t exactly have a good record for sorting these sorts of things out.

Oh well. Fingers crossed it’s sorted before Christmas.
