Phil’s Diary - [Blog @ http://www.philsdiary.net/]
I’ve always been seduced by gizmos and gadgets. Not so bad that I can’t move for them, but enough for the followng example.
Last night I put my new watch to sleep. That is, I put it into power saving mode. The hands now show 10:05pm, 1st Nov. Yesterday.
I’ve refrained from waking it (give it a good shake), so that I can see whether a day on, it spins through a full 24hours, or just on the few minutes (I know it has two stepper motors… is one connected to the date, and one the hands?). All will be answered in a little over an hour.
It may sound a bit geeky, but it’s all down to “how things work”. I see some black box magic and I want to know how it works. With a new expensive watch I’d be stupid to take it apart, so I want to find out as much as I can without opening it. Already many webpages have told me how it’s charged. But none have enough detail. The answer to my question will therefore be answered by experiment only. And that’s what I’m doing.
Ever watched a wildlive program in wonderment at how amazing nature is? Well I’m the same. But my amazement and wonderment goes a little further than the natural world. Observe what has been created and perhaps someday you’ll be able to create the same (or better) yourself.
Watch and learn (pun not intended!)!
