This story gives a brief overview of how Intel is now releasing “Hyperthreading” in it’s latest desktop chip.

A couple of our Xeon servers at work use Hyperthreading (though they manage it with Windows 2000, not XP as the article suggests is needed… I guess that’s custom servers for you).

The hype would have you believe that you’re getting lots and lots for free. However as I’m sure you can believe, that’s not quite the case. Sure, you’ll get a few percent increase in speed. But it certainly won’t be much. After all they’re not giving you 2 processors.
