Having read the comment by other Phil below, I thought I’d give the Windows Media Encoder widget a whirl.
It seems to do a good job of streaming, with plenty of configurable options.
However, I have three problems with it. First I’m not convinced that it’s actually streaming out to the net. And second, it uses a fair chunk of CPU power to encode, even if there are no users attached. Finally, it requires windows media player, which you’ve probably not all got.
The upside is that it seemed to give smoother video, and give me a bit more control over res, refresh rate and bitrate.
But the choice is yours really. I’d appreciate some feedback, as to which you’d prefer. I’m also happy to leave the Windows Media Encoder on for a day or two, if you’d like to give that a try (indeed, I’d appreciate the feedback, because, as I mentioned, I’ve not idea if it works).
