Digital Music

Now we seem to hear a lot about how fat-cat music industry bosses are making tonnes of cash from over priced CDs, and how the RIAA are doing the best to kill off new technology where they don’t control distribution.

One of the common themes is that the music industry isn’t making good use of technology, and is instead trying to stifle it, to keep the cash coming.

I thought this was quite a good idea, and uses new technology to get music to the punters ASAP. Buy the album and you can download a copy of the CD to listen to until the official release date, at which point they’ll send you the CD and the digital copy will expire (literally ).

Ok, so there’s no option to just buy the digital copy, or to not have it expire, and you do pay a few quid more for this, but at least it’s a step in the right direction, someone looking at technology, not getting panicky about losing control, and instead making use of it.

It’s a start.
