It seems the RIAA are pressing ahead with their mass-sue of anybody found to be sharing music (or at least you’d hope they’ll check it’s music). While this article is obviously biased one way (ie. against the RIAA), you do have to wonder how long they’ll survive if they keep calling what would normally be law abiding citizens criminals.
You can see where they’re coming from. For years people copied music by taping it. No chance of the RIAA finding who was copying then. Now with new tech copying comes new tech catching. Why would they turn that opportunity down?
I guess the biggest problem is their indication that rather than starting at the top, and stamping out those that distribute millions of tunes, or make millions out of copying those tunes, they just act at random, prosecuting anyone they can.
Still, you can’t justify wrong-doing, even if you are amazed at how much money is spent bringing those doing it to justice.
