DNS Cache

So last day of the week for me as far as work is concerned. No complaints.

Out for a game of pool later, but first…

…Back home and I decide it’s about time I get some sort of DNS server working on my linux box. I follow this howto, on setting up a simple caching server (I can’t see any reason to go any further than this). As it turns out everything is already setup, it’s just a case of updating the config files and running it. That said the howto gives me a better idea of how it all fits together, and how to update the root servers.

While I was on a roll, I thought I’d startup squid and get that working too (cached DNS and web… what a world of out of date troubles I’m asking for). That too was just a case of editing the config file so that my whole network could use it, and getting the service started.

I’m glad I got all that sorted, because just as I’m finishing up I’m off out for a few games of pool with some chaps from work. A good way to spend an evening even if you’re rather crap at it like me.

Anyway, office Christmas party tomorrow, so if I go anywhere tomorrow it had better be to buy something to wear.

Goodnight.
