The Outtage Continues

Still no change on the hosting front. What I suspect (though this is 100% guesswork) is that even though the power was restored in the building, that those administering the machine itself haven’t been allowed access back in yet. The computer is in a university building, and I suspect that the building is locked and closed for the Christmas holiday. So I’m hoping that next week the holiday and and access to the machine can be gained, and we’ll be back to normal with a large amount of backfilling needed by me).

However, if things don’t return to normal pretty quickly next week, I’ve got a few contingencies waiting. I’ve managed to get MT installed on my machine here, so I should be able to knock up a close approximation for the duration. Most of December will be missing (shame on me for not backing up more often), and the machine is a fair bit slower, and I’m sure there will be broken bits too… but for the most part it should do as a stop-gap, and allow me to post (which I can then copy back when my normal host is back up).

In the long run I think I’ve learned to make more regular backups of my diary, and I’ll also have my slower standby site ready too… so that with little tinkering I should lose a day or two’s posts at most.

I apologise for the outage, and hope we’re back soon.
