Karting Breakdown

Ok, in a little more detail.

The karting event was setup as a competition between 12 drivers. It was arranged as 12 heats of 8 laps, of which each driver competed in 5. In each heat you scored points for your finishing place. At the end of the heats the top 6 drivers based on the points accumulated during the heats went into a 12 lap final race. At which point any points were ignored.

Everything was run almost non-stop, as one heat finished the next started, and so there was very little time between races to catch breath before you were back out and racing again. If you did get a few minutes you could look at the monitors to see how you were doing.

The organisation was very well done. Computers kept tags on who was where in each race, lap times and keeping track of the point scoring. The track also had a proper lights system for the start of the race, and for crash related stoppages.

There were also some nice touches, like the fact that for the final the carts were already lined up and waiting on their correct grid spots, and the podium and champagne and trophys.

We also went away with results sheets for each heat, showing timings and placings for each lap of each heat.

All in all a great fun event and well run by the company (Mr Karting in Leamington).

Obviously not going to be of interest or fun for everyone, but for a fair few people worth a go.
