Some non-beer assisted thinking last night:
I read this somewhere:
“Liking life. It’s only short, if you’re not going to make the most of it, you may as well do something that you enjoy.”
Now that’s all well and good, and certainly a very good thing to aim for. But there’s good reason to have sympathy for those that fall short.
We’re complex beings. Medicine is doing well, but there’s lots it can’t fix. Our understanding of our bodies as mechanisms alone is incomplete. When it comes to the brain, there’s even less known.
So can we say that we really fully understand ourselves? Probably not.
So assuming that you don’t always understand yourself, can you always grasp what’s stopping your from total enjoyment? And more to the point, even if you did manage to work out what was stopping you, could you always do something about it?
It’s a good goal to have, and if you achieve it, then even better. But you’ve got to have some allowances for the hiccups along the way.
