Phil’s Diary - [Blog @ http://www.philsdiary.net/]
Off to have another look at a house this morning. This one is a 3-bed mid terraced property, the third bedroom would have been just big enough for a single bed and a small wardrobe (etc.) I think. However it’s current use is as a small office, which is probably what I’ll use it for. The other two bedrooms are plenty big enough for double beds and other furniture. Downstairs there’s a dining area off the lounge and french doors out to the garden (this crafty move, having “areas”, means that both rooms seem larger). All in all the owners have obviously spent a lot of time (and probably money) on the property, new central heating was put in a couple of years back, as was a new kitchen. The decor of the place is all very carefully painted and decorated and looks very well looked after. The garden also shows it’s been well kept too, with a small patio area, and well tended lawn and shrubs.
Finally on the upside it has a garage, somewhere a bit more safe to store my car (and it’s roof during the summer).
All in all it looks like quite a good proposition. While I only really need one bedroom, having two helps with guests and visitors. The downside of course to one or two bedrooms is that I’d have been putting my computer stuff either in that second room (not so great for guests), or in the living room. This way however I can use the third room as a small study, and make the living room less cluttered (And geeky), and the other two bedrooms as bedrooms. I like the idea of a garage too, gives me some extra storage space as well as car security.
Also as perhaps a positive is that as a slightly older property (mid 60’s I think), the house itself isn’t all tightly packed and compact (as one of the newer ones I saw at the start of the week was), nor is the neighbourhood in general. The obvious downside is that it could well require a little more maintenance and perhaps a little sooner.
As I say, looks promising.

I was looking at your site on my iPaq last night. Because of your frames (I think), the text area was just about two (short) words wide. The blue box (frame?) borders were visible, as was the extra blue border (there were two sets).
Not all sites work well on the iPaq. Fer instance, abcnews.com does not look right, but msnbc.com does format nicely on the iPaq screen.
FWIW.
Good luck with the house. House-hunting can be quite a chore. In our housing market here (Sacramento area), you have to move fast if you find one you like. And it's hard to make a big decision like that with just a short amount of time to decide.
And then there's the moving thing........

Phil -
Sounds as though you have found your home. It sounds great to me. If you decide on it - buy it. And DON'T look back, or have second thoughts after the fact. It's likely the best you can do with what you got.
Congratulations on being an (almost) homeowner!
Regards,
JHR
