I got a new spam comment today, which demonstrates a new tactic by spammers. In this age of increasing reliance on spotting words, phrases and other patterns which imply spam, the spammers seem to be taking a different tack. In this comment they’d just used a series of random characters, both for the message, their email address and the link URL. No more “texas-holdem.com”. Instead “sdfskvefdte.com”. And of course registering a gibberish domain isn’t a problem
So what do we do now? Have whitelists of words we feel need to be included in a comment/email, and a blacklist of words we don’t?
It’s all a bit surreal really.
