Spamassassin

Up until the weekend I’ve been running version 2.6x of Spamassassin on my mailserver. Then I upgraded to the latest version. By itself it improved my spam capture rate quite highly, this seems to be down mostly to the ORBS approach, whereby as well as all the old tests, it all tests any URLs and domains listed in the email against blacklists, such as Spamhaus. This really does help with reducing the spam let through. It won’t work with some of the spam comments I’ve seen in MT (which for some reason use domains that don’t exist). The upgrade also got me to check out my spam whitelists, which due to me being lazy and putting a few general rules in has been letting the odd one through.

If you use Spamassassin, it seems worth updating to if you ask me.
