Phil’s Diary - [Blog @ http://www.philsdiary.net/]
Cyclists can be really annoying. I’m prepared to forget about the fact they don’t pay road tax etc. for most of the poor sods, after all it takes guts to ride around on some of the narrow, blind cornered roads around here.
But what I won’t forgive and what winds me up quite a bit, is when they turn arrogant.
You spend a few minutes trailing a cyclist at 10mph, because the road is twisty enough for you to not be able to safely overtake. You finally get past. A short while down the road you come to some traffic lights on red. You stop. To my dismay, time and time again, the cyclist catches up and proceeds to squeeze past the side of the queueing cars, to the front of the queue.
Of the cars that just past ‘em!
So then the very same queue has to pass the cyclist a second time.
For crying out loud, you’re an obstacle, stay over-taken, get out of the way, and have the deceny to only be in my way once in a few minutes, that’s excusable. Making a pain of yourself is not. And to be honest, knowing the damage you’d do to the car when it hit you, and vice versa, it’s a real stupid move.

So when you're driving slower than the traffic behind you do you pull over? :-)

Around here that bicycler would more likely than not have passed the cars AND ignored the trafic light.

Here in Hawaii, and perhaps where you are, there is a statute that requires cyclists, when on public roads, to follow the same traffic laws as car drivers.
Hence, when coming to the back of a line of vehicles stopped at a light or stop sign, cyclists are prohibited from passing along the right or left edge of a two-lane road (one lane going in each direction).
Of course, most police officers seem to have better things to do than ticket cyclists. Nonetheless, cyclists are supposed to obey the law regardless of enforcement (but that is subject for another time).
