Trips

The winds of yesterday persist, and the temperatures are a little cooler. Yesterday we’d decided that if today was anything like yesterday we’d not just sit around but instead go and do a little sightseeing or similar. So that’s eventually what we did. The first stop with the thermal spa at Eftalou. For some strange reason they’ve turned it into a small pool, with strange concrete roof. A very claustrophobic and dark space, neither Abi nor I take up the opportunity to actually take a dip and instead head outside to dip a toe in the overflow, which is still really quite hot, like a hot bath.

We then head off to Tsonia beach, along a dirt track to Skala Sikaminea, then up the hill to Sikaminea itself, before heading round the mountain to Tonia, a strange red beech.

We don’t stay there long either, the windy weather had rendered the water too turbulent for the clear underwater photos we took last year, and which we’d returned to get. And unlike the geothermal heated water at our previous stop is freezing. So we head back home the scenic route and spend a relaxing afternoon much like yesterday.

Here’s a pic on the way back of Petra, you can see dead centre the rock sticking up with the church on top that I mentioned the other day:

We head off back to the restaurant in Eftalou, Manoli’s, that previously served me up some delicious baby tuna, and swordfish. Tonight I try something different, in baby red mullet. So I then spend a while dissecting the 6 whole battered fish served, Removing the heads and tales and trying to separate the spines and attached bones from the nice fleshy bits. It’s a pretty delicate job, but the remains feed the assembled throng of cats (guess they could smell the fish) quite well.
