New Puter

Another day back at it at work. A recent meeting has left me with a long list of things to get done, which I’m zipping through pretty rapidly.

Over the past few months Abi and I have been discussing getting a new computer. Our current one is rather old, and needs an update. Although we could pop some more memory and harddrive in it that wouldn’t really sort out the whole of the problem, and to do that really means a new CPU, motherboard and memory as well. By the time I’ve done that and upgraded the graphics card (which is really really behind the times), there isn’t much more left of the original machine.

So we cut our losses today, and as sort of Christmas present to each other, we buy a new machine. We order a machines with the following:

Intel Pentium D 840 (Dual P4 Cores at 3.2Ghz)
2Gb of DDR2 (533) RAM
500Gb SATA RAID 0 Stripe
DVD Re-writer and DVD drive
nVidia GeForce 256Mb 7800GTX graphics card
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card

That should mean that we won’t need to borrow any bits from our old machine, and in effect gives us a complete refresh of all the components which based on the age of some of the current ones (like the 10Gb harddisk) isn’t a bad thing.

We’ve just got to wait for it to be shipped now.

Back home and yesterday’s shopping show up.
