Phil’s Diary - [Blog @ http://www.philsdiary.net/]
A day off work today (and hopefully tomorrow). While Abi’s at the gym the new motherboard shows up. The pessimist in me reckons it’ll be the CPU or something else daft, so I don’t hold out much hope, but on powering just the board things look hopeful. So I bolt in the CPU, and it carries on looking good. So I go all out for CPU and memory and that too is looking good. So I then fit it all into the case, and lug it upstairs and plug it in… and it’s all working ok (which is why you can read this).
The OS ain’t so happy about having had it’s hardware mucked around with and could probably do with a fresh install at some point.… but for now, it seems to cope so it can lump it.
Anyway… got a few more things we should be doing this afternoon, so now it’s backup, I’ll get off out.

Good job on figuring out the motherboard was the problem. As you said, you could very well have ended up replacing everything but you chose the logical places (power supply and motherboard).
